Does anyone as hopelessly behind as my foolish self know why bloody ning has such a problem with paragraphs? I know i'm neurotic but there's no way i'm publishing it until i can work out how to use bloody paragraphs. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
It seems to change with different people; if you put return marks in the regular blog window they should show up as paragraph breaks in the HTML screen. Paste < br > (remove the spaces) between each paragraph in the HTML, and it'll put the breaks in for you.
Even more bizarre is that I can only use the wisiwig in IE - neither Opera nor Firefox work for me. Lamentably. (hate using IE, it's the McDonalds of browsers... you find it everywhere, but it's bad for the soul.)
i think it might be something to do with formatted text. if i copy it into the text box from word, for example, it won't let me insert paragraphs into the resulting text - but if i save it in a basic text format, open it with something other than word THEN copy it it seems to work. another one of ning's less-than-endearing quirks
Thanks guys. That's really helpful. Ning is indeed the most frustrating thing ever invented. I hold it personally responsible for stealing a week of my holiday. Hmph. I hope you're nearly finished..presuming you're not just browsing through old blogs of course!!
I'm not familiar with it. If it's one of the widgets (like the audio player) it probably can't be done.
If you need bigger images, you're better uploading them directly to the Ning gallery and then linking them using the basic photo tool in the blog - just bear in mind you have a maximum width of 430 pixels.
Cara, I used the ning slideshow thing for better or worse, was big enough for me. I don't know about Flickr - but try delving into the html again and see if you can't find numbers relating to the height and the width of the embed and do jazz hands. Beyond that dunno loyke.
hey tom, thanks, yeah i'm using the ning one too but just noticed that some people (namely mike the magger) seem to have got it to go bigger and mine is still just a tiny thumbnail. how how how do people know how to do this stuff!? Thanks for the help!
Try copying your word documents if you are using word into notepad on a PC or text edit on the mac. That should strip the formatting that is messing you up. Unfortunately Word messes up nearly all online publishing systems....not just the hated Ning.
Second: yes Firefox is your browser of choice
Third, don't get too hung up on flickr galleries and multiple photos. You are being marked on ONE photo in the story.
Fourth, without Ning, you wouldn't have all been able to chat like this and resolve the problems and you'd all have been ringing me......so actually it's quite a good networking tool when you think of it. :)
......and before you all bite my head off I realise you'd wouldn't have had the problems in the first place without Ning.
