In spite of Cardiff’s shiny and new public facade, like any city its retained a ‘dark side’ where the city’s outcasts live in its shadows .Whilst the public buildings of the Bay are a symbol of the city’s ambition, people with aspirations of a more basic kind find themselves neglected due to an anomaly in Wales’ services for heroin addicts.

I can’t be the only person whose enduring memory from Pete Clifton’s lecture was the picture of brown bear clinging to the top of a tree, whilst his attacker, a domestic cat, sat waiting at its base. I’m not sure if I can remember anything else. Not because the lecture was boring, but because that one image blows everything else out the water.

I liked Daniel Meadows. I’d actually seen him before the lecture, at a post-grad, wine-in-polystyrene-and-horrible-sandwich event, standing on a balcony, waving to no-one in particular.
