Capturing Cardiff - Somali community

For the Capturing Cardiff task I intend to look at the Cardiff Somali community. Most Somali immigrants can be found in Butetown, where the Red Sea House scheme for retired Somali fisherman provides support as they integrate into the community.


Much of the Somali population is from a fishing background, having either served in the Royal Navy or arrived in the 19th century to search for work in the coal shipping industry. Most arrived in the last 20 years, and having received little edu
