Hello Tim, I hope you had a good Christmas and New Year. Just sending you this message to let you know I will be back in Cardiff on Tuesday night so I won't be at uni for the first couple of days.
The main reason for this is because my travel costs are three times as much if I booked before the 8th. I shall email this to your uni address as well in case you don't get it in time. Cheers.

Does going to university make you a better person?

Second marking the Ning blogs has been an interesting experience. Not only has it given me a chance to review the various arguments that exploded during the course of the module, it has also revealed a pretty persistent strand of thinking that can be characterised as:

"I have paid a lot of money to go to university and this puts me in a superior position to the people who have not done so.

"Therefore I will make a better journalist than those other people."

I make no comment about this, I do… Continue

Accuracy is more important than platform

I have been reading through the blog entries and I am getting worried.
Not about print (ie newspaper) vs broadcast, or the people's preference for pictures of bears up trees rather than heavyweight reports from Basra, but by the evident lack in many reports of one of the bedrocks of journalism - accurate reporting.
I do not mean the usual bugbear of speeling, grammer or puncuation but getting the basic facts right. For example, Richard Burton was never the editor of the Telegraph, nor is… Continue

Richard Burton's leading role(s)

Well then, to Richard "Been there, done that" Burton again. I blogged about his first visit a few years ago (see the pearls here) and nothing much has changed.
A very nice guy who really has seen and done a lot, but the ideas seem to bounce around his head like a pinball: some score highly, others register a minus.
I think he has got a bit stuck too. Just because he has never seen a 'robohack' does not mean that a roboha… Continue
